Awesome Question on our Tarot Guild Facebook Group, from Vanessa Carey >>> What’s your favorite major arcana card and why? ...Click this link to see the original post, and tell us your favorite card!
Here's Mine:
"TEMPERANCE" has always been my favorite card, or in the "Top Three". I never liked the word though, as it doesn't really express the meaning of the card.
In my research, I found an old English term, no longer used, from the same Latin root: "Temprian" -- "The Middle Path between Two Extremes".
We see "The Path" on the Card itself (Waite/Smith Version), leading from the pool of water (the subconscious and higher conscious) to the summit in the distance, with our "Goal" at the peak. (See Image Below:)
20 Years ago I started teaching about the "Temprian Path", as well as the "Temprian Principal", found within this and the card....
....whenever confronted with two opposing opinions, beliefs, points of view, systems, etc. - "The Truth is always in The Middle!"
The Temperance card also contains the SYMBOL for The Tarot itself! Notice the square, with a triangle in it, on the Angel's chest, in the Waite/Smith version of the card...
The square is matter, with spirit (the triangle) within -- a symbol of "Life". The Square is the Material Realm, represented by the Minor Arcana of The Tarot....
Imagine all 14 cards, of each suit, lining up on each side of the square, all the way around.........
The Triangle represents the Spiritual Realm. Imagine the Major Arcana cards lining up along the three sides of the triangle, 7 cards to a side.
...and The Fool card in the center -- The Void out of which everything else manifests....
Though an angel, the Angel on the card is symbolizing our true nature, as humans. He has one fool in the pool of water, and one foot on dry land....
This represents how we, as humans, straddle between the Spiritual and Material Realms........
The Angel pours water from one cup to the other, at an impossible angle. This represents how, because of our state of existing simultaneously in both Realms, we can do the impossible; manifest anything we want.......
Bright Blessings!,
